| The
History of Ye Olde Malthouse Ye Olde Malthouse is reputed to date back to the late 14th Century, and has retained much of its olde worlde charm, whilst catering for modern day comforts. Our main restaurant originally had two fire places, one has now been closed and has display shelves in it. The other has a wood burner. You can dine in the bar area as well as our sitting/dining room, which has a split window and original salt cupboard. There is also a sitting/residents room with a large bookshelf full of interesting reading - perfect to relax in after a long walk! We have an old well which is around 40ft deep and may have been used for the brewing of beer in bygone days. The Malthouse abounds with antiquity and even a tunnel was discovered at the back going down to the vicarage. This has now been boarded over and lies underneath the present drive leading up to the car park. Tintagel is situated on the picturesque North Cornish coast. Legend has it that it was here the infant Arthur was heaved up by the Atlantic into Merlin’s Cave (Tintagel), so here the search for King Arthur must begin. North Cornwall has a past teeming with interest, which can be experienced by visiting the multitude of museums found throughout the region. |
